हिंदी अनुवाद - इस कविता में कवि का कहना है कि दुनिया कैसे नष्ट होगी - इस बात के दो मत हैं।

पहले अनुच्छेद में कवि ने यह बताया है कि कुछ लोगों का मत है कि अग्नि ही दुनिया के सर्वनाश का कारण होगी। इसके अनुसार पृथ्वी का तापमान इतना अधिक हो जाएगा कि सब कुछ भस्म हो जाएगा। दूसरा मत यह है कि दुनिया का विनाश जम जाने से होगा इसका मतलब है बर्फ से सब्जी वह पेड़ पौधे विलुप्त हो जाएंगे और दुनिया ठंड से जम जाएगी।

कवि ने आग की तुलना मनुष्य की असीमित इच्छाओं से की है और मनुष्य के ज्ञान को ध्यान में रखते हुए कवि स्पष्ट रूप से कबूल करता है कि वह उन लोगों से सहमत हैं जो मानते हैं कि दुनिया को खत्म होने में आज की मुख्य रूप से भागीदार होगी।

इस पंक्तियों में कवि का मत बदल जाता है। वह कहता है कि पृथ्वी का विनाश बर्फ से होगा। वह यह भी कहता है कि आग से विनाश के बारे में भी वह अपना समर्थन वापस नहीं लेता। वह बस मानता है कि क्या हो सकता है अगर पृथ्वी को दूसरी बार नष्ट किया जाए। उसे यकीन है कि दूसरी बार बर्फ और ठंडा तापमान ही पृथ्वी को नष्ट करने के लिए पर्याप्त होगा।

कवि अब बर्फ की तुलना घृणा /नफरत से करता है। मनुष्य में नफरत की भावना से वह भली भांति परिचित है और मनुष्य के इस ज्ञान को ध्यान में रखते हुए कवि मानता है कि बर्फ या मनुष्य के दिल में नफरत दूसरी बार सर्वनाश का कारण बन सकती है।

Central Idea of the Poem

The poem 'Fire and Ice' by Robert Frost revolves around the theme that human emotions like Desire and Hatred are destructive when allowed to run out of control. They can destroy a person a person morally, mentally and physically.

Textual Exercise –

(1).There are many ideas about how the world will 'end'. Do you think the world will end some day? Have you ever thought what would happen if the sun got so hot that it 'brust', or grew colder and colder?

Ans - yes, I think the world will one day and there is nothing we can do about it. The reason that out of 8 planets,life exists only on earth, is it that the temperature and water is apt to make it possible.

If the sun get so hot that it bursts, there will be fine everywhere and it would lead to destruction of Earth.

And if it grows colder, there will be ice everywhere on earth and life in any form would not be able to sustain in such low temperature.

(2). For Frost, what to do 'Fire' and 'Ice' stand for? Here are some ideas

insensitivity	coldness	hatred	hatred

Ans - According to Frost 'Fire' stands for greed,conflict,fury, cruelty lust and avarice whereas 'ice' stand for insensitivity, coldness,intolerance, indifference, rigidity and hatred.

(3). What is the rhyme scheme of the poet? How does it help in bringing out the contrasting ideas in the poem?

Ans - The rhyme scheme of the poem is aba,abc,bcb. The poet had used the rhyming is scheme beautifully to bring about the contrasting ideas for fire and ice in the poem.

The features the destructive human emotions: Desire and hated in the poem. Just like fiery desires and icy hatred can cause damage to and individual in and irreparable manner, fire and ice can also lead the world at the verge of Chaos and that will lead to a final destruction of the world.
